BLACKWORK TATTOOS
Blackwork covers more ground than people expect. At one end it's solid, graphic and bold — heavy bands, negative-space patterning, work that reads from across a room. At the other it's ornamental: fine repeating detail, vessels, botanicals, illustrative figures built from line rather than shading.
I work across that range. The maze and key-pattern sleeves are the graphic end; the hare, the dragon and the ornamental forearm pieces are the illustrative end. What holds them together is that everything is built from black ink alone — no colour, no grey wash, just line density doing the work.
Heavy blackwork asks more of the skin than fine linework does. Large saturated areas take longer to heal, and they benefit from being broken across sessions rather than pushed through in one. I'd rather book you twice than over-work an area once.
SATURATION
I pack every design area with dense black ink rather than stippling. My goal is perfect saturation so your tattoo heals smooth and consistent, showcasing sharp edges and heavy contrast.
HEALING
Tattoo recovery typically lasts between 1 to 3 months based on placement and your routine. You may experience some skin shedding in the early weeks, but meticulous care ensures the deep black pigments stabilize effectively and retain their brilliance.

Does heavy blackwork hurt more than fine linework?
Large saturated areas are more intense than outline work, mostly because of the time spent going over the same skin. It's manageable — the reason I break big areas across sessions is as much about the skin as about comfort.
Can blackwork cover an existing tattoo?
Often, yes — solid and ornamental blackwork are among the most effective ways to cover older work. Whether it'll work for yours depends on how dark and how large the existing piece is. Send a photo and I'll tell you honestly whether it's a cover-up or a removal-first job.
Does solid black fade to green or blue over time?
Modern black ink doesn't turn green the way older inks did. Well-packed black settles and softens slightly but stays black. Sun exposure is the main thing that ages it — sunscreen on healed work is the single highest-return habit.
How long does a blackwork sleeve take?
It depends on density. Graphic, bold-pattern sleeves come together faster than fine ornamental ones. Most are several sessions of 3 to 6 hours; I'll give you a realistic session count after seeing the design and placement.
